Slip-ring motor for cement mill in IM 1101 design

Menzel manufactured three slip ring motors as mill drives for a long-standing customer. They are going to be used in his new cement plant in the Middle East. The new medium voltage motors supplied here belong to MENZEL's standard products. MENZEL has been supplying the world's largest cement manufacturers for many years and offers a wide range of high, medium and low voltage motors.

Rather unusual was the IM 1101 (IMB20) design of the largest of the three motors. Namely, the 2000 kW motor with its total weight of 14300 kg is to be suspended in a kind of trough. Extra large side mounts on the welded steel housing were provided for this purpose. The other two mill drives weld steel housings, which are not quite as heavy, were manufactured in the foot-mounted design IM 1001 (IM B3). 

IC611 - CACA - Air-Air cooling

All three motors are of the IC611 - CACA - air-air cooling with integral fan on motor's shaft inside stator and heat exchanger with open external circuit with fan on motor's shaft. 

Electric motors in cement production plants are exposed to extreme conditions caused, for example, by the large amount of dust present, but also by the high temperatures with strong temperature fluctuations. To prevent dust and dirt from entering the motor, closed cooling systems in the form of an CACA air-to-air cooler are used. And, since the cooling and motor housing are separated from each other, installation and maintenance of these slip ring motors is particularly easy.
