Menzel Elektromotoren delivered a specialized 6.300 V slip ring motor enhanced with an integrated brush-lifting device, providing enhanced maintenance capabilities and operational reliability.

Challenge: Precise dimensional adjustments

The customer required an advanced motor solution to drive a critical pump in their water treatment infrastructure. The key challenge was to provide a motor that could operate seamlessly under high-voltage conditions while incorporating a brush-lifting mechanism to facilitate maintenance without extensive downtime. Starting from a standard stock motor was necessary to meet tight project timelines and cost targets, yet integrating a highly specialized brush-lifting device into the rigid stator and rotor configuration posed significant engineering difficulties. Precise dimensional adjustments and high-accuracy fits were essential to ensure the device's functionality and motor performance were not compromised. Additionally, the motor had to endure demanding operational stresses typical of water and wastewater applications, warranting validated reliability through comprehensive testing.

Solution: Define exact tolerances for integration

Menzel’s engineering team commenced the project by meticulously measuring the existing standard motor stator and the brush-lifting device components to define exact tolerances for integration. This foundational step ensured that subsequent modifications preserved the electromagnetic and mechanical integrity of the motor. Our in-house winding and milling specialists then performed precise adjustments to both the stator windings and rotor elements, tailoring the components to accommodate the brush-lifting mechanism. Integrating this device inside a high-voltage slip ring motor involved complex coordination between electrical and mechanical subsystems, which Menzel expertly managed to maintain optimal operational performance. Following assembly, the motor underwent rigorous load testing in Menzel’s proprietary test field, verifying its performance under realistic conditions and assuring the customer of minimal commissioning risk. The completed motor was finished with Menzel’s distinctive yellow coating for corrosion protection and traceability before timely delivery to the customer’s site. This bespoke solution enables our customer to maintain pump operation efficiently, with simplified brush inspection and replacement afforded by the brush-lifting device, significantly reducing maintenance-related downtime.
