6600V compressor motor restores oxygen supply in hospitals

Menzel Elektromotoren has delivered an urgently needed 6600 V compressor motor to ensure the oxygen supply of many hospitals in the Middle East.

A 6.6 kV compressor motor failure had led to a production stoppage. Dwindling oxygen reserves that would only last three weeks increased the time pressure. Menzel Elektromotoren completed the order within shortest time, working in close coordination with the customer. The replacement 6600V motor was dispatched by air freight to its destination in the Middle East.

While this type of compressor is typically equipped with water-cooled motors with externally lubricated bearings, the failed motor had featured IC 01 air cooling and self-lubricated, extra-large bearings. Neither a cooling water connection nor an oil supply were therefore available on location. In order to address these special conditions, Menzel proceeded to modify a compressor motor we had in stock accordingly. The drive engineers converted the air-water cooling to IC 01 air cooling.

Custom-made and special solutions of electric motors

MENZEL Elektromotoren specializes in custom-made products and special solutions in industrial motor technology in the power range up to 20 MW. The respective customer requirements are thoroughly studied by our engineering team. If required, we also take on-site measurements and data to provide a custom-made solution.

In this special case, we added an oil circulation pump with a separate tank and connected it to both bearings. At the customer's request, the autonomous lubrication was function-tested in an extended trial run. Furthermore, the MENZEL engineers bored mounting holes to fit the existing footprint at the installation site and moved the terminal box to a specified position for optimal accessibility.

The project was completed to the full satisfaction of the customer. Regular oxygen supply to the hospitals has been reliably up and running again for some time now.

MENZEL maintains one of the largest stocks on large industrial electric motors, e.g. for compressors. We always keep three-phase asynchronous squirrel cage motors and slip ring motors as well as direct current motors in different sizes in stock so that we can supply the motor you need really quickly if necessary.
