Challenge: Precise installation in a limited space
The pump application relies on a reliable, high-performance motor capable of continuous operation even under demanding conditions. The failed motor, in particular, featured a terminal box arrangement that complicated reinstallation. Any replacement therefore had to fit precisely into the limited available space and match the existing machine interfaces without major modifications. At the same time, the customer required a lighter motor that could match or exceed the previous performance. Reliable protection against environmental influences and stable operation at approximately 1487 min⁻¹ and 250 kW were essential requirements.
Solution: Drop-in replacement within two weeks
MENZEL engineered a high-efficiency three-phase squirrel cage motor that is both smaller and lighter than the original unit, with a weight of 2,200 kg. To ensure compatibility with the customer’s installation, MENZEL engineers developed a custom adapter for the main terminal box, allowing the connection position to match the existing layout without modifications to the pump itself. This tailored solution enabled a true drop-in replacement, avoiding costly redesigns and minimizing installation time. The motor design complies with IP55 protection and uses the IC 411 cooling method, warranting reliable operation in the demanding environment of the pulp and paper industry. Additional bearing adjustments were implemented to improve durability and withstand operational loads. Thanks to MENZEL’s fast response, the motor was delivered within two weeks, minimizing operational disruption for our customer.
