25 ton fan drive for Italian thermal power plant
MENZEL supplied an exceptionally large fan drive to a thermal power plant in Italy. The 8-pole three-phase squirrel cage motor in D5 design with base frame and pillow blocks was extremely large motor with 3,500 kW power output, 6,000 V and over 25 tons of weight. An additional challenge: in its application as a fan drive the three-phase squirrel cage rotor motor has to resist ambient temperatures of up to 60 ° C.
The old original drive from 1973 also had special features such as external sliding bearings, special housing dimensions and foot frames as well as a particularly great moment of inertia of J = 11250 kg / m². MENZEL manufactured the motor replica with identical mounting and shaft dimensions, the same shaft height as well as identical plain bearings, terminal boxes and oil and water connections. The customer also requested a tangent delta test and partial discharge measurement, which were carried out in MENZEL's in-house load test field.
